Aden, Yemen – 24 August 2026: HSA Group and the British Embassy to Yemen are pleased to announce a new partnership between HSA Group and Chevening, the UK Government’s flagship scholarships programme. This will support outstanding Yemeni professionals pursuing postgraduate education in the United Kingdom and in joining a global network of future leaders working to address global challenges and drive sustainable development in Yemen and beyond.
Announcing the partnership, Nabil Hayel Saeed Anam, Chairman and Managing Director of HSA Group (Yemen Region), highlighted the role of the private sector in expanding educational opportunities and empowering communities in Fragile and Conflict-Affected contexts.
"We are pleased to partner with Chevening to help equip the next generation of Yemeni leaders with the knowledge, skills, and international exposure needed to address global challenges and drive sustainable development in Yemen and beyond."
Yemen is facing a severe education crisis with millions of youth out of school and countless others needing support to access education, which impedes the socioeconomic development of the country. Despite these challenges, the ambition, resilience and potential of Yemeni youth remain undiminished.
"As the largest private company in Yemen, we are committed to investing in education and nurturing the next generation of Yemeni leaders, and look forward to continuing to support and deliver education programmes in collaboration with Chevening and other international educational institutions to advance sustainable and inclusive socio-economic development in Fraile and conflict-Affected contexts."
His Majesty's Ambassador to Republic of Yemen, Abda Sharif OBE., said:
"I am delighted to welcome this new partnership between Chevening and HSA Group. It reflects our shared belief in the transformative power of education and our confidence in the extraordinary potential of Yemeni young people. By creating new opportunities for talented Yemenis to access world-class education and global networks, we are investing in the next generation of leaders who will help shape Yemen's future. The UK remains committed to supporting Yemen and its people, and I look forward to seeing the impact these scholars will make in the years ahead."
The 2027/28 intake will offer two fully funded scholarships for eligible one-year taught master’s degrees at UK universities. The partnership will continue across the 2028/29 and 2029/30 academic years.
The scholarships are open to eligible Yemeni nationals, with priority given to courses related to:
• AI, digital transformation and data-driven governance;
• Economic recovery and private-sector development; and
• Food, water and climate resilience.
These priority areas reflect some of Yemen’s most significant development priorities and opportunities - from strengthening food and water security and building climate resilience to supporting economic recovery and harnessing digital technologies to improve decision-making and create new opportunities.
Applications for the 2027/28 academic year are now open and will close on 6 October 2026 at 11:00 UTC. Applications must be submitted directly through Chevening.
Applicants should review the full eligibility criteria and submit their applications at Chevening / Hayel Saeed Anam Group Scholarships
Building on HSA Group’s longstanding focus on supporting education through philanthropy and its commitment to investing in global partnerships that support young Yemeni talent and the next generation leaders, the Chevening/Hayel Saeed Anam Group Scholarships reflect the Group’s belief in education as a foundation for Yemen’s future development and long-term prosperity.
The scholarships reflect a shared commitment to developing future leaders equipped with the skills, knowledge, and connections needed to tackle global challenges and drive positive change in Yemen and beyond. The programme offers fully funded master’s degrees at UK universities to 2 individuals who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential and a clear commitment to contributing to positive change in Yemen.
Chevening is the UK Government’s international scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations. Established in 1983, Chevening supports outstanding emerging leaders from around the world to pursue one-year master's degrees in the UK, equipping them with the knowledge, networks and confidence to drive positive change in their home countries.
The Chevening Scholarship programme has supported outstanding Yemeni scholars for many years and has built a network of 254 alumni in Yemen. Through this new partnership, HSA Group will fund two additional Chevening Scholarships each year, creating new opportunities for talented Yemenis to access world-class education and global networks.
